'The best way out is always through' - Robert Frost

Motivation. We all need it whether to do well in exam, finding a job, or completing a household task. As Johann Gottfried Von Herder says; 'without inspiration the best powers of the mind remain dormant. There is a fuel in us which needs to be ignited with sparks.' The question is what are these 'sparks' which can ignite our fuel?
There is either intrinsic or extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is driven by the enjoyment or interest of the task and lies within the individual instead of external pressures. An example of this is studying for a subject and doing reading around it for pleasure rather than for receiving a reward. If this was the case for me I wouldn't be writing this blog and I would be busying myself with studying and writing my personal statement.
Extrinsic motivation which at the moment is the definition of me comes from outside the individual. Common extrinsic motivations are rewards like money, grades and competition. As a young child I am ashamed to say that instead of offering to wash up whole heartedly, I would only do it if I got paid.
According to Ralph Waldo Emerson, 'nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm' but how do we get enthusiasm? My three ways to achieve motivation is either by gaining a reward at the end, setting deadlines, or providing myself with long term and short term goals, but I can't always guarantee that will work even for me. I get bored working yet I'm bored not working which in itself makes it harder for me to sit down.
Going back to my title quote; 'The best way out is always through,' how do you get through? We have established through motivation and enthusiasm but another factor is lacking. One needs a way to study, a way to make it fun. Information must go in and there are so many creative ways to make it happen besides sitting at a plain boring desk. If I was musical I would definitely make up my own songs for revision but well unfortunately am not... so back to the desk I go!
